Going to let this one go.
Probably a very rare finish. It is still the only Remington Portable #2 typewriter I've seen with this crackle red finish. Spotted a few images of green crackle Portables online, but no red machines.
Even though it works well and has a spectacular finish, the 'Lava' machine will be let go of. Of all the machines to use and tinker with, this one gets picked least often. So decided to let this one go.
This time it comes with the instruction booklet. This should prevent a next owner forcing the lid down over the carriage with the knob extended.
Paring down... ...well, probably more a case of making space for possible new specimens to tinker with and fix-up.
Lava, still a very striking machine :)
Very cool finish. A sort of dinosaur pelt.
ReplyDeleteNow you mention it - 't is a bit like a pelt :)
DeleteMust've been 'special' when new too. Trying to imagine how this would have looked to that customer that bought it in 1928...
Nevetheless, it doesn't 'speak to me', like you put it. Am done fixing it, so will pass it on...
So did you find a lover for this typewriter?
ReplyDeleteWe'll, a local Etsy trader will buy it for a reasonable sum, probably then sell on Etsy for an eyewatering sum. Do have some qualms on this, even tho it'll make the machine end up where it's deemed valuable and not a disposable.
DeleteIf you'd like it (or any other Typospherian), do say so - happy to ship :-)
So . . . what's the reasonable sum!?!
ReplyDeleteAh, well the EUR 400 and up (!) asked on Etsy I find eye-wateringly over the top. Especially if it's merely dusted off and resold. Maybe if new rubber & hours spent and all that, but still.
DeleteDid do (and spend) quite a bit on this one (new feet etc), but still rough cosmetically. Much much less than half than on Etsy seems more reasonable to me :)
